Top Interviewing Tips

LinkedIn posted some pretty good advice about how to interview: Focus on the needs of the hiring manager.

But I’d like to add my perspective from 30+ years as a financial recruiter.

I often say that everyone’s favorite radio station is WIIFM – What’s In It For Me?

What people, especially interviewees, often forget is that the “M” – ME – is the hiring manager – the person who is interviewing you. So you have to think, “What’s in it for THEM?”

When I prep my candidates, I tell them to come up with a list of questions to get the interviewer talking. That way, you can have a true conversation.

Think about using questions that:

  • Demonstrate the homework you did researching the hiring company.
  • Ask how success will be defined.
