The most widely used tools are Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
KPIs are simple measures of your business’s performance. They quickly tell you if things are getting better or worse. If things are getting worse, you will have time to take corrective action.
- I ran a family business for two years that was wracked by dissent, even though the business was doing well. Replacing traditional financial statement reviews with KPIs brought family harmony. BTW, sales and profits more than doubled in two years.
There are other tools you might consider, but the important thing is deciding you want to be in a position to run your business rather it running you.
