I Was Happy to Find Out that I Have Yellow Nail Syndrome…

By Rich Bond

I had a medical mystery. For nine months, I suffered from a persistent cough. I saw doctor after doctor and had test after test. But no one could diagnose what was wrong with me.

My nails were also thickening and turning yellow. My dermatologist thought it was a fungal infection.

I sent the photo of my nails (below) to my daughter-in-law, who is also a dermatologist, specializing in Mohs surgery. She shared the photo with other doctors she knows.

One of them realized it was Yellow Nail Syndrome (YNS). Guess what? One of the symptoms of YNS is a persistent cough! The syndrome is very rare. The doctor who recognized it in me said he’d only seen it once before in 40 years of practicing.

I realized that my medical mystery is not that different from things that happen in business. An unpleasant surprise or chronic business situation needs a skilled professional to diagnose the true problem and help turn the situation into a growth opportunity.

A skilled financial professional (like a great controller) can help forecast likely problems, minimize the disruption, and point out opportunities.

If your business has been facing too many unpleasant financial surprises, I would love to talk to you.
