Have You Read “Traction”? What Do You Think?

By Rich Bond

“Vision without traction is merely hallucination.”

This is one of my favorite quotes from Gino Wickman’s book “Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business.”

In other words, having great ideas is not enough. You need a structured approach to turn those ideas into reality; i.e. traction.

I decided to read Wickman’s book because several business owners recommended it to me after using his Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). I was intrigued.

Here are three points I think are the most important in “Traction”:

  • Build a High-Performance Team: The right people in the right seats is a recurring theme in “Traction.” Wickman’s insights on defining roles and ensuring alignment with core values have helped business owners reshape their approach to team building.
  • Solve Issues at Their Root: EOS introduces the IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve) process for addressing issues, ensuring that problems are tackled at their core rather than being swept under the rug.
  • Measure Progress: The use of scorecards and KPIs to track performance allows you to gauge your progress and make data-driven decisions.

The third one is my favorite because measuring progress (or lack of progress) is essential to business success.

Have you read “Traction” or used EOS? Let me know. I’d love to discuss.
