I am not sure how your year was, but mine was weird. Not bad, not great; just unexpected.
Here are four lessons learned in 2023, and what I want to do differently in 2024:
- I worked with an unprofessional hiring manager at an expanding company for longer than I should have. In the future, I will try to cut my losses earlier.
- I had a great time working with an expanding nonprofit, helping them hire a Finance Director on a pro bono basis. I want to do more of this kind of work in 2024.
- When working with business owners, I’ve come to realize that the problems they face are not the same ones that I think are important. I need to ask more questions and offer fewer solutions.
- I was thrilled when several former clients reached out to me after they joined new organizations with hiring needs. I will endeavor to keep in touch with good contacts whom I worked with in the past.
What are your thoughts about what happened in 2023? How are they influencing your goals and plans for 2024?
All the best for a happy, healthy, and successful New Year!
